Good analysis, Tory. I don't think the hard core hate merchants will change their ways, but bringing their activities to the attention of a wider audience at least creates opportunities for them to be made accountable for their views and actions. For the boneheaded me-toos, who seem mostly to want to be norty and outrageous, being called to account by real people sometimes does serve to make them pull their head in, even if only temporarily.

Besides all that, it gives people like me an honest and reasonable way to deal with our fury and the nasty, grubby feeling that reading a hate post leaves one with.

When the only means by which equality is pursued is trough lawmaking and in extension brute force (fail to obey - go to jail), no amount of equality can be obtained but that of the intellectual and physical upholders of the law.

equality in your sense is the equal 'right' to obey the law.

Do you really think that a murder-threat on twitter is legit? Of course not. It is an appaling, but nonetheless harmless expression of contempt with feminist values.

The telco provisions of the Commonwealth Crimes Act does not seem to think so. It prevents the use of a "carriage service" (a term which includes the Web) to harass, threaten or attempt to intimidate.

The motivation IS NOT intimidation. Some of comments may sure feel intimidating, but the they are not an attempt to make you to shut up,
I don't think so. If a young woman is threatened by telling her she will be killed or raped, she is quite rightly going to feel fear. On far too many occasions, the "threats" have been followed up by action.

(this discourse is actually quite fun)
Glad you think so.

but to hurt your feelings and in extension to make themselves, ourselves, feel better.. Its not pretty, but its true.

You aren't hurting my feelings mate. If someone is so inadequate and socially inept they need to get their thrills from anonymously trying to degrade and humiliate women because they are women, then they need medical help.

You say that feminism isn’t a club or single ideology – maybe you could understand the need for all MRA’s not to be put in the same box aswell?

So what "rights" do you feel you are deprived of? The young men in my family are quite comfortable with the notion of equality with their female partners. In terms of parenting, it has been liberating for them. For instance, they can now fully participate in the raising of their children rather than just being regarded as the source of income, which was the case in earlier times.

MRA’s don’t argue phenomological ‘evidence’ of feminism, but the philosophical, psychological, economical, biological and legal consequences of the historical movement.

I am yet to see a convincing argument for reducing the status of women to what it was.
